This marks the first time I ever tried my hands on a 2-tiered cake. I thank my cousin for having the faith in me to taking a stab on it. Yes, my cousin ordered this KPOP themed birthday cake for her daughter’s, Echa’s 10th birthday along with those LEGO cupcakes I’d posted in my previous entry. Her daughter is apparently a big fan of the KPOP group, ‘Shinee’.

Honestly, I did not know anything about KPOP culture. So I did a bit of research on the Korean boy band to get a general idea of it; even listing out the name of all five Shinee’s member names.

Seeing that it was my first time with a tiered cake, naturally I made a couple of mistakes and such. Accidents with stacking the cakes and all are something I really hope won’t happen again if I were to make more in the future.
Admittedly, the end result of the cake was not how I had planned it to be. The original draft included an iPod and an electric guitar on the sides, whilst the ‘Happy Birthday’ wordings were to be place on the cake board. But my gumpaste was a total disaster. So I had to omit them all out. The only gumpaste I eventually used were those 3 glittering stars I’d stick atop the cakes.

Like I said, my gumpaste didn’t work out brilliantly. Hence, I couldn’t make the CD edible as I’d wanted it to be. Eventually I had to stick the edible photo paper onto a CD-shaped plastic to make it stand well.

Overall, I’m satisfied with the look of the cake. It’s far from perfect, but I’m happy with it.
